Of his many productions, the most notable was his direction of the World Premiere in 1973 of William Inge’s The Last Pad which starred then unknown actor Nick Nolte and won nominations from the LA Drama Critics’ Circle. While serving as Drama Director for the City of Phoenix, Anderson started the Phoenix Free Shakespeare Festival, supervised over 80 citywide drama classes, and sponsored a New Playwright’s Festival. His book, An Essay on the Meaning of Hamlet: A Director’s Approach was published in 1979. An updated version with his adapted acting script is due for publication.
Mary Anderson (Producer/Assistant Director) earned her BA in speech, English and drama at the University of Minnesota, her MA at SDSU and has taught for 32 years. Both an actress and technician, Mary has worked in all aspects of theatre, co-producing professional productions with the actor/director husband, Keith. She worked at Santa Barbara Rep as a costume designer and taught theatre classes at Grossmont and SBCC. She works full-time as the library media teacher at Bonita Vista High and works part-time as a library substitute at San Diego Public Library. A Coronado Playhouse Board Member, Mary has won numerous costuming and production awards.
Teena Correia (Stage Manager) Just about every production in the past six years at the Playhouse has been mounted with the tender, loving care of this gentle, hard-working lady. Talented beyond belief, she fashioned exquisite ball masks for Much Ado About Nothing, contributed greatly to the weird and wonderful set-dressing of Everybody Loves Opal, and provided award-winning costume design for the ladies of Biloxi Blues. In addition, she has stage-managed more than 18 shows here.
Lee Dronick (Graphic Artist, Webmaster and Set Construction) Lee is a retired Navy Senior Chief. After his military service he worked for several software companies before starting his own graphic design and computer consulting firm. Lee was a theater technician during high school years and also worked in the school print shop, so doing projects for the Coronado Playhouse come natural to him. He would like to thank his wife Jennifer for putting up with his eccentricities.
Dale Goodman (Lighting Design) is the VP of Operations for San Diego Valet and Parking Service. He has been an active theatre technician since 1990. Dale’s credits include extra work in local motion pictures, acting, lighting, set, and sound design for numerous shows at Coronado Playhouse, and a 1998 Aubrey for technical direction of I Hate Hamlet. Dale has also volunteered at the Hahn, Sweetooth, and the Casa del Prado. Dale’s wife Bette provides a helping hand with lights and much moral support for Coronado Playhouse
Rosemary King (Set Designer) Rosemary started painting scenery for On Stage Playhouse in 1987 for the production of All the Way Home. She has participated in the painting, construction, designing of sets for Scripps Ranch Community Theatre, Clairemont Players, OnStage, Poway and Coronado Playhouse for dozens of plays and has received numerous Aubrey nominations and awards. Rosemary says. “This is a work of love and I will continue to do what I can for as long as I can.”
Pamela Rotta (Lighting/Sound Operator) Pamela (known in Coronado as “Pebbles”) returns after operating the spotlight for The Fantasticks and light board and sound for Merchant of Venice. She’s worked crew backstage for a number of shows at Welk Resort Theatre where she also appeared on stage in Can-Can. She’s also had roles in Megill and Company’s Fate, Golden State’s Under the Big Top and Sleeping Beauty, and San Diego City College’s Hello, Dolly! as well as numerous other roles. Since 1997 she has annually directed the children’s musical theatre productions for the San Diego County Community Home Education Program (CHEP), where she’s currently in rehearsals for her tenth show Tom Sawyer which will run in the auditorium at the Dove Library in Carlsbad this April. She’s very proud of both daughters, Veronica and Juliana, who have each performed on the Coronado Playhouse stage. She’d also like to thank her loving husband and best friend Joe.
Ro Harrison (Running Crew) Rosemary Harrison is the wife of Ivan Harrison (Joseph) and also hails from England. Since Ivan’s debut in The Nerd, Ro is even more convinced that she has no aspirations to be on the stage “anyway her daily life is full of enough drama!” Ro was the lighting and sound technician on The Nerd, and was the stage manager for My Three Angels. Setting the scene for success has been Ro’s life work through charity fundraising, event organizing and venture capital acquisition. She wishes to thank The Coronado Playhouse for the opportunity to be part of this accomplished team.
Jim Davis (Running Crew) Jim first became involved with the Coronado Playhouse earlier this year in the production of The Nerd, and then worked on My Three Angels. Like Ivan Harrison (Roat), is a refugee from the closure of Cajon Speedway in El Cajon, where he served as a NASCAR Track Official for 37 years. Jim is happiest when he is helping out - no task too small or too large! In addition to scene changes, Jim is renowned for bringing in “goodies” to keep the actors happy and fed. He has been around the world three times (courtesy of the US Navy), but has been happy to call San Diego home for over 40 years.
Jane Russell (Set Construction) Jane teaches a ceramics class at a local recreation center. One day her friend and student Rosemary King needed help painting a set and Jane has been working on stages throughout San Diego county ever since. She has enriched many a set with her carpentry, sewing, painting, costuming, and decorating sense. She served as costume designer for The Merchant of Venice, The Nerd, and My Three Angels.
Barbra Hoffman (Stage Manager) appeared as Mme. Parole in My Three Angels at Coronado Playhouse where she also served as stage manager for The Fantasticks, The Merchant of Venice, and My Three Angels. She also appeared as Mrs. Galarza in Tender Lies at Lamplighters Theater, as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, as Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, as Annie’s sister in Annie Get Your Gun, as a USO entertainer in South Pacific, as Magnolia in Showboat, and as Mrs. Savage in The Curious Savage in a theatre senior group, and she has performed with the San Diego Choraleers. She thanks Keith and Mary for their faith in her, Stan for all his never ending support and not asking her for I.D. when she comes home, and Lacee and Symba for puppy and kitty kisses with which to greet her.
