Auditions for The True Tale of Sleeping Beauty

The Story: An original musical retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story with a fun, energetic twist. In 1465 Aurora is put under a magic sleeping spell by three good Fairies – trying to prevent their evil brother Hemlock from marrying Aurora. It’s 500 years later in 1965 when Aurora is awaken by a prince (a dog, owned by Christopher, named “Prince” who licks her hand.)

Open call. No appointment necessary. Performance dates: June 19 – June 29, 2008
DETAILS: Prepare a one-minute vocal audition with accompaniment on CD. CD player will be provided. Accompanist not available. (No acapella and no vocals on CD accompaniment please.). Bring headshot and resume if you have them. (Sides will be available at callbacks only.)
Rehearsals begin May 12th and will run Sunday through Wednesday evenings and Saturdays during the day. Performances: Thursday, Friday, Saturday @ 8pm, Saturday & Sunday @ 2pm.
Character Breakdown
Princess Aurora: Sweet yet strong-willed. Wants more out of life. Must sing well. (Soprano).
Christopher: Wandering troubadour. Handsome, easy-going, good-natured. Must sing well. (Tenor, high baritone)
Rose Fairy: Strong authority figure. Good head on her shoulders. Must sing and move well. (Soprano)
Violet Fairy: Sweet but not so bright. Sing and move well a plus. (Mezzo)
Daisy Fairy: Youngest Fairy. Very bright. Sing and move well a plus. (Alto)
Hemlock: Evil. Sneaky and manipulative. Good character voice and singing. (Baritone)
Queen Emaline: Ditzy. Very excitable. Good singing a plus. (Mezzo)
King Ethelred: Father figure. Commanding but still thinks of Aurora as a little girl. Good singing a plus. (Baritone)
Mrs. Busybum: Fussy, hovering “mother” type who takes care of Aurora.
Ensemble: Male and female court & servants, several with speaking roles. These roles also double as 1965 “groovy” people, fans & performers in the “Battle of the Bands.”
