Miss Marple comes to The Coronado Playhouse, The Theatre by the Bay, for the first time in Agatha Christie's famous play Murder at the Vicarage, dramatized by Moie Charles and Barbara Toy. The play based on the first Miss Marple novel, gives mystery fans the first view of St. Mary Mead, the home of Christie's most popular sleuth, the intelligent English senior citizen, Miss Jane Marple, played by Imperial Beach actress Jeanne Danis. Christie said that the beloved character was partially based on her very astute grandmother.

Director Keith A. Anderson and producer Mary Anderson have discovered as they studied Marpelian literature that there are three biographies of Miss Marple and countless articles written about the fictional character. Her fictional town of St. Mary Mead rest twenty-five miles south of London. Over a period of some forty years, sixteen murders occurred in this picturesque English village-five by poisoning, two by shooting, two by drowning, two by strangling, and five by unidentified means-plus four murder attempts by poisoning, smothering, and bashing on the head. In the same forty years, there were five robberies, eight embezzlements, two series of blackmailing, several illegal impersonations, a case or two of poaching, and many crank telephone calls, poison-pen letters and criminal libels. Fortunately Miss Marple was always there to solve the crimes.

Miss Marple (Jeanne Danis), uncovers a wide range of suspects who hated the unpleasant victim, Colonel Protheroe, who is found shot in the Vicarage.Vicar Len Clement (Ray Simard) was being questioned by Protheroe about missing church funds. The Vicar's attractive wife Griselda (Elizabeth Mander-Wilson) has a secret past that she is hiding. Protheroe's young widow Anne (Nanci Harrington) will inherit a great deal of money. Protheroe daughter Lettice (Patricia Stutzka) was angry with her father for interfering with her plans for a love life with Lawrence Redding (Jeffrey Lippold on Thursday, Friday, Saturday/Terence J. Burke on Sunday matinee), the local Lothario and portrait artist as well as with the Vicar's nephew Dennis (Patrick McLaughlin). Curate Ronny Hawes (Frank Godinez), who suffers from sleeping sickness, reacts with maniacal hysteria when he sees the body. Mrs. Price Ridley (Julie Nalley) feels that she will be the next victim after she receives a threatening telephone call. The maid Mary Jenkins (Rachel Krentzman) gets defensive about her poaching friend, Mr. Archer. Dr. Haydock (William W. Savage) seems to be the only character who isn't a suspect. Even Miss Marple, who rents her house from the Colonel, could benefit from his death.

Miss Marple guides Inspector Slack (Richard O'Casey) and Constable Jennings (Marcus Correia) through all the red herrings to the real clues as the police discover the truth along with the audience.
