Chuck Lockwood (Musical Director & “The Orchestra”) Chuck’s musical talents started at the early age of 5 where he studied classical piano for 13 years in Jacksonville, Florida. He won numerous awards at the local and state levels in both piano technique and composition. He also studied voice, organ, harp, flute and saxophone during his teens and taught himself guitar and bass. Much too his mother’s dismay, Chuck turned down a music scholarship to pursue other career opportunities. After moving to Atlanta to attend college, Chuck branched out his talents and became the concert pianist for 5 years at First Baptist Church of Atlanta, where he was seen each week on the national broadcast of “In Touch.” He also played for many contemporary Christian artists including Sandi Patti, Andrew Cullverwell and Ralph Freeman. Shortly after leaving First Baptist, Chuck was called to All Saints M.C.C. and served as their pianist and Minister of Music for over 12 years. As an avid supporter of the Gay & Lesbian Community, Chuck joined the group “Hope in Harmony,” a 40-voice chorus and 30-piece orchestra dedicated to raising funds for HIV/AIDS awareness. He served as the assistant conductor for 2 years until the death of the group’s founder, and then served as the principle conductor for 8 more years. While in Atlanta, Chuck directed over 35 Broadway musicals including the Atlanta premieres of A Chorus Line and Into the Woods. Now a resident of San Diego, he helped orchestrate the original musical The Servant’s Ring, which won the East County 1999 Best Musical of the Year award. He has been seen in productions of Love Rides the Rails, Broadway Backstage, Pets! The Musical, Pirates of Penzantes, and produced and music directed the 25th Anniversary of The Rocky Horror Show. He also writes, directs and co-produces the annual Christmas production of M.C.C. San Diego. “I am very blessed to be a part of Coronado Playhouse’s production of The Fantasticks.” |
