Nathan Boyer (Bernardo/Rosencrantz) is delighted to make his first appearance at the Coronado Playhouse. A San Diego native, Nathan is a teacher and coach at Mt. Carmel High School. He is returning to the stage after a bit of a hiatus, but previous local shows include The Sound of Music, Camelot and The King and I at Moonlight Amphitheatre and Oliver! at the La Jolla Stage Company.
Terence J. Burke (Hamlet) Thanks for your considered support of free Shakespeare performances. “The play’s the thing.” Previously at Coronado Playhouse under Keith and Mary Anderson: A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Oberon), The Tempest (Prospero), Hamlet (Laertes), Much Ado About Nothing (Claudio), Twelfth Night (Andrew Aguecheek), As You Like It (Jaques), Taming of the Shrew (Lucentio), along with three runs’ worth of The Mousetrap (Christie’s, not Hamlet’s). Elsewhere: Yes. “What should a man do but be merry?”
Joshua Camp (Laertes) is pleased to make his debut performance with Coronado Playhouse, and also his first foray into Shakespeare. A native of Northern California, Joshua has performed professionally with opera companies throughout the state. He most recently took the stage in the chorus of San Diego Opera’s much acclaimed production of Peter Grimes. Some of his favorite prior roles include Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, The Father in Hänsel und Gretel, and Orgon in Tartuffe. Some of the companies Joshua has performed with include: Utah Festival Opera, Opera San José, Golden Gate Opera, and West Bay Opera. Patty Fay (Lady in Waiting/Player) Technician/ & performer for over 40 years with 37 shows at The Coronado Playhouse, she last performed in The Wizard of Oz in an Aubrey-nominated ensemble at CPH and in Bye Bye, Birdie at Vangard Theatre. She also works the ‘Trail of Terror’ in Balboa Park and dances in The Nutcracker with Dance Express. She also acts, directs and does performance art for the North Park Vaudeville Theatre. Patty was awarded the 2008 Star Award in honor of her 7 years of volunteer service at The Coronado Playhouse.
Frank Godinez (Horatio) This marks Frank’s seventh show at Coronado Playhouse. Other credits include Romeo and Juliet (Lord Capulet) for the Guerilla Shakespeare Company, 1940’s Radio Hour (Neal Tilden) at Lamplighter’s for which he received a 2002 Aubrey Award for Best Cast Ensemble in a Musical, Oklahoma (Ali Hakem) for Christian Community Theatre. He is a former dance member of Stage 7 Dance Theater.
Marty Greenberg (Polonius) returns to CPH where he performed in The Taming of the Shrew (Gremio), As You Like It (Duke Frederick), Romeo and Juliet (Prince), and Merchant of Venice (Solanio). He received his medical degree and psychiatry training from UC San Francisco and works with children, teens, and college students. He ventured into theatre to play McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, performed with the Charlen’s Company in Julius Caesar, Othello, and Romeo and Juliet, and recently performed in the Intergenerational Theatre at the Jewish Community Center, making his singing debut. He performs in numerous choirs and appeared in Kiss me Kate and Guys and Dolls.
Eric Hedberg (Ghost of Hamlet’s Father) Eric holds a BA in Anthropology from SDSU. He has run lights and sound for twelve shows, stage managed If the Shoe Fits, and appeared in nine shows at Coronado Playhouse, most recently as Elgin in the Aubrey award winning production of Agatha Christie’s Spider’s Web. He has also appeared in the Lamplighters Theater productions of My Cousin Rachel and Pull the Curtain, for which he received an ACT nomination for best supporting actor. Eric, a San Diegan since 1975, is an avid amateur astronomer.
Eva Kvaas (Queen Gertrude) Eva is excited to be performing her fifth show at the Coronado Playhouse. Previously she played Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet, Susie Hendrix in Wait Until Dark, Mrs. Potts in Picnic and Mrs. Boyle in Mousetrap. Other recent roles include Miss Daisy Werthan in Driving Miss Daisy (Passion Players Dinner Theatre) and Louise in Post Mortem (Lamplighters Theatre). Ms. Kvaas has produced seven musicals for her after school drama program, Theatre Kids Workshop, including Wizard of Oz, Cinderella and Oliver! Eva has a B.A. in Theatre and Drama from Indiana University and teaches drama at the La Mesa Community Center.
D.J. McLaughlin (Lady in Waiting/Player) This is D.J.’s first performance since 9th grade drama and she is thrilled to be a member of such a fine cast at the Coronado Playhouse. D.J. is a native San Diegan and currently works for the County as a Land Use Technician for the Planning and Land Use Department. Her favorite role these days, however, is being grandma to three adorable little girls and is looking forward to meeting her first grandson due in November. Thanks to the Playhouse for an opportunity to renew an interest in live theater.
Stephen McLaughlin, Sr. (Lucianus/The Gravedigger) Steve is returning to the Coronado Playhouse following an appearance in the Aubrey-winning play Spider's Web, in which he played Constable Jones. He is excited to be playing the roles of the Gravedigger and Lucianus and wishes to thank the cast and crew for all their support. Steve is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson School of Law. In addition to acting, Steve loves to play his guitar and sing. Prior to Spider's Web he appeared in a film version of “As You Like It.”
Anna McMillan (Ophelia) is making her first appearance at the Coronado Playhouse. She just graduated from Valhalla High School in June and is excited to begin her first year at UCSD as a theatre major. Some of her favorite roles include Nellie in South Pacific and Ruth in Pirates of Penzance.
Leslie S. Miller- (Lady in Waiting, Player) is excited to be in her first production with the Coronado Playhouse. For the past 4 years she has been involved with Vanguard Theater most recently in Bye Bye Birdie as Gloria. Leslie is originally from the Boston area where she was heavily involved in various college productions and community theaters. Some of her favorite roles include Sally Bowles in Cabaret and Maria in West Side Story. She received a B.A. in Theatre from the Univ. of Massachusetts at Amherst. Leslie would like to thank her husband for all of his love and support.
James Paraiso (Marcellus/Guildenstern) is making his debut at Coronado Playhouse. James is a recent graduate of SDSU where he received his BA in Theatre Performance. He was last seen as Martin in 1984 at Onstage Playhouse and was nominated for an Aubrey Award in a minor role. His other credits include: Asian American Repertory Theatre’s, The Joy Luck Club playing several male roles, and his favorite role of Grandpa in SDSU’’s, The Grapes of Wrath. James wants to thank his beautiful wife, Carrie and their four wonderful children, Benjamin, Althea, Oliver and Paige for all the support over the years.
James Steinberg (Player King/Osric/Francisco/captain/priest) obtained his BA in Theater Arts from SDSU, where his credits include Much Ado About Nothing, Arcadia, How I Learned to Drive, and Romeo and Juliet. Elsewhere: Leading Ladies at the Broadway Theatre, A View From the Bridge at Lamplighters (Aubrey Award), The Foreigner at OnStage Playhouse (Aubrey), As You Like It at Coronado Playhouse (Aubrey nomination). James also played Touchstone in Pete Shaner’s film As You Like It and appeared in Breaking Vegas on the History Channel. Other credits: orientation video for Jack in the Box and a promo for KGTV’s 10-4 San Diego. James is also a playwright.
Claire White (Player Queen/Lady in Waiting) Claire has indulged her love of Shakespeare with roles in Hamlet, Macbeth, and Twelfth Night, and has studied Shakespeare at Cambridge University in England. She has worked in theater support functions of concession stand, box office, house management, and costume production for Coronado Playhouse, Christian Community Theater, Mira Mesa Theater Guild, and San Diego Free Shakespeare Festival. Claire is a retired travel agent, now a Notary Public.
Martin White (Claudius) has appeared this year at Coronado Playhouse as Uncle Henry/Gate Guard in Wizard of Oz (Aubrey Award) and as Sir Rowland in Spider’s Web and now thinks himself blessed with the role of Claudius the King. The Charlain’s Company, Poor Players Vangard Theater and Coronado Playhouse have all allowed him appear in Shakespearean plays. But, in over a dozen productions, nothing has been as satisfying as the opportunity to play “the bloat king” in this, the most thoughtful and inspiring of all Shakespeare’s plays. “Here, stooping to your clemency, I beg your hearing, patiently.”
